7 Weeks in Wasilla

Week One

This week has been absolutely amazing. I flew into Anchorage on Sunday at one in the morning and a few hours later I woke up to two little voices in my ear! Sophia and Logan had come into my and Brittany's room at about eight o'clock. They dragged their little sleeping bags down and laid on the floor next to our bed. I heard Logan say, "Sophie! Sophie! Get down here! Be quiet!" I peeked over at Brittany who was just shaking her head. Eventually little Sophie and Logan crawled into bed with us and we laughed and talked about teddy bears for a half an hour. It was a sweet warm welcome to Alaska :)

A couple days after I arrived in Wasilla, Brittany took me out driving to see the beautiful view. There are a ton of super cute coffee shops all over the place! They're like little sheds that you drive up to to get coffee and you don't have to get out of your car! Convenient for Alaskans in the winter! So we drove up to this one coffee place (I like to think of them as coffee shacks) that serves ice cream, (no, mom, I'm not drinking coffee) and took a picture of the menu. Apparently they don't size their ice cream normally. Example: small, medium, large, etc. No, no. They label them: A cup, B cup, C cup and DD cup. WHO DOES THAT!? It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen! Take a look for yourself!

I have absolutely loved being here in Alaska with Brittany and her family and I am so glad I get to spend more time with them. I met Linnea's family here as well and we found out that we're related! Her mother's maiden name is Ingram! I walked into the house and I almost had a heart attack because she looks exactly like my Grandmother! She even has the Ingram Chin! We're totally going to do some research to see if it's legitimate.

Moving on to more about Brittany's Half Brother and Sister, little Logan made my day yesterday! He thinks that I am his adopted sister for the summer (which I guess I practically am). I was driving him in the car yesterday when he says "Hey! ...  You're a pretty awesome Step Sister." I told him thanks and he's a pretty awesome little brother. :) I am sooo excited to be here in Alaska! I know I keep saying that but... I can't stop saying it!

Stay tuned for more to come!

Week Two

So I am in the middle of Week Three right now but I forgot to post stuff from Week Two!!
Last Tuesday Brittany and I went Kayaking with her mother, Miss Wendy. We Kayaked for five miles across three different Lakes and the view was unreal. I thought I was in a dream! I still can't believe that I'm here!

After we went kayaking I passed out for about three hours and then Brittany and I went to Dairy Queen (one of the few places to eat around here haha) for ice cream. We were eating in her car and she turned to me and said, "Let's jump in a lake." I was game so we called up Linnea and went to Kepler Lake! We got there... and then I started freaking out. (Keep in mind that even though it's light outside, it was eleven o'clock at night!)

The dock was about five feet above the water which is not bad at all. But I am terrified of heights! Then I noticed the "No Jumping" sign on the dock!... Take a gander....

After a few more minutes of freaking out Brittany and Linnea took me to a much smaller dock... but then I started freaking out because I knew it was going to be so cold! Needless to say, it took me a half an hour to actually get up the nerve to jump into what I thought was going to be glacier water!

Still freaking out...

And finally... I jumped in! Enjoy!

So I couldn't get out of the lake after I jumped in! I was stuck for a couple minutes before Brittany figured out how to get me out haha!

Overall this week was amazing and I loved every minute of it! I don't have the kayaking pictures yet but I will really soon so I can upload them! This coming week is going to be great! I can't wait for all that's in store! Stay tuned for more!

Week Three

Not a whole lot happened this week but it was definitely exciting! Brittany's family threw me a half-birthday party in celebration of me turning 18 and one half years old! The table was decorated with Hello Kitty (one of my favorites) and we had pizza and cupcakes. I am so thankful for the love they are showing me.

So at the very beginning of this week Brittany and I were house sitting for our friend Linnea. She has a little shiatsu named Nikki. Nikki is extremely attention intensive and hilarious. I've never had a pet before so I have no idea what to do with a dog. I prayed the whole time that it stayed alive long enough for Linnea to get home! One this week I had to pick Brittany up from work so I thought, 'Oh sure! I'll take Nikki with me!' Bad decision. I took her leash with me just in case we had some extra time to walk around. Also bad decision. So we get to Sports Authority where Brittany's summer job is at and it turned out that we actually did have a little extra time. So I put Nikki's leash on and we went outside to walk around a little. We get in front of Target and the inevitable happens. For a dog, this can only mean one thing. She decides to poop on the sidewalk outside of Target! I about gag and not knowing what else to do (being that I don't have any gloves and would never touch her excrement even if I did) I just left it there! Now I'm mortified! Then we walk maybe five feet when Nikki decides that she has to relieve herself again behind the trash can! At this point I start laughing and I can't stop. So it's me... by myself... with a dog... laughing hysterically... by myself. If that didn't make me look ridiculous I don't know what could! But wait! There's more! We get to the other end of Target and Nikki goes again for the third time behind another trash can. Then she pees in the grass. Silver lining: at least Nikki won't have an accident in Brittany's car and my future children will never have a dog.

This coming week I'm going to the Midnight showing of the last Harry Potter movie. Then Brittany and I are camping in Seward! I'll have more next week!

Week Four

Harry Potter

This week has been one of the funnest weeks I've had in Alaska! It started with the midnight showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Brittany, Linnea, Brittany's Step Brother (Jameson), his friend whose name escapes me, and I went to the preview of Part 1 before the midnight showing of Part 2. The whole night was absolutely hilarious - mostly attributed to Linnea. Brittany and I learned of her wild attraction to Severus Snape, which I find repulsive. She threw my wild attraction for Dwight Schrute (from The Office) back in my face! ...For the record I think there is just no comparison between the beauty of Dwight and the ugliness of Snape but that's just me. When Part 1 finally started we could not stop laughing! Brittany and I laughed with Linnea all night! We were not being very quiet at all then out of nowhere this extremely rude and annoying person yells across the theater, "Would you be quiet!" (I edited out his expletive for obvious reasons). That shamed us into silence for a good ten minutes before we started up again :). In between Part 1 and 2 we all looked at the magazines Brittany and I brought from home. While perusing Vanity Fair, Linnea and I found a most disturbing picture! It was a side view of two people in their... birthday suits! We screamed in horror as Linnea ripped the page out and shoved it in the back of the magazine. Brittany chimed in and we all just laughed about the awfulness of this picture! After finding two more pictures in the same likeness... we decided to stop looking at magazines. I also may or may not have told Linnea to use the pictures for a deco-podge haha! Part 2 started and it was literally epic. I loved every minute of the movie! However, I found it horrifically tragic that my childhood is now over. Brittany, Linnea and I have grown up with Harry Potter! The first movie came out in 2001. I was eight years old! And now the last one is out and I'm eighteen! I still remember when I saw my very first Harry Potter movie. I watched it on a sleepover at my grandparents' house! But alas, childhood is not meant to last forever.

Seward, Alaska

The weekend was made perfect with a YSA Conference in Seward, Alaska. Brittany and I drove down with Linnea and her older sister and one of Linnea's friends, Shelby. The five of us crammed in a tiny car we came to nick name the "clown car." We had all of our things stuffed in the back and by some miracle, the trunk closed! Four hours of belching and unfortunate smelling farts later... we arrived in Seward! We had quite the adventure setting up our enormous tent but we had a blast. We fell asleep that night on what seemed like a boulder. Linnea woke up five feet away from her original sleeping position, I felt like someone had punched me in the back and Brittany felt about the same! But the day turned out to be filled with adventures! We had breakfast with the rest of the Young Single Adults at the conference and then our group (Brittany, Linnea, Shelby and I) went to give service at the SeaLife Center in Downtown Seward. We found out that our project was the paint a stairwell with Primer so that professionals could come in and paint it with real paint. There were a few other people that volunteered with us... but they turned out to be creeps! We all got in our paint suits, which looked like giant Hazmat suits! But they were definitely lying when they said that "one size fits all" because I felt like I was drowning in mine! This guy named Danny taped up the rest of my suit to my ankles and then made an extremely inappropriate joke (which I will not repeat) about how we each looked! I made the sore mistake of laughing at him which he must have taken to mean that I liked him because he wouldn't leave me alone for the rest of the service project! Brittany, Linnea and I named him McCreep. He kept asking me questions that made no sense at all and at one point he turns to me and says, "Hey... are you going to the dance tonight?" I thought to myself, "You mean the dance that is scheduled for tonight... the one that everyone will be at? Of course I'm going, what else am I going to do in a town that I've never been to?!" But I swallowed my sarcasm (yes it tasted of poison) and calmly replied, "Yeah I think so." And McCreep says, "Oh, well.. I'll have to see you there..." I was officially hating my life because I never ever attract normal people! I am the world's BIGGEST creep magnet in the entire world! However, my mood was infinitely lightened when McCreep asked Linnea for the paint and all she said was, "Calm the frick down." He asked her again and she said the same thing! I was laughing so hard it was ridiculous! And she never did give him the paint! All creepiness put aside, the service project was great... mostly because one of the workers was with us the whole time and he just happened to be the most attractive man I've ever seen in real life!
After the service project, our group went to Exit Glacier to go hiking! The hike up to the glacier was miserable. There were - no joke - fifty flies surrounding us at all times! But we got up to the glacier and it was all worth it. It was unlike anything I'd ever seen! It was giant! We took tons of pictures with the glacier and it was so much fun!

After our hike we showered at this little place in the middle of town and went back to the SeaLife Center to look around... and to find the attractive man and invite him to the dance later that evening!
The dance came after the SeaLife Center where I successfully attracted every creep at the conference. (That may or may not have been an exaggeration). There was one guy that asked me to dance that turned out to be normal! His name was Chris... but he was 26 years old. He asked me how old I was and I said 18. He looked surprised and then I asked him old he was. He got so embarrassed! He reluctantly admitted how old he was with a really shy face and I thought it was really cute! It definitely lightened the mood because neither of us cared how old... or young... we were :). But the highlight of my night was meeting a guy named Weston. He's an extremely attractive man who called me Miss Tennessee!
The conference ended Sunday with a Sacrament and Testimony meeting. Then we all got back in the clown car and drove home to Wasilla! Linnea got sick so I actually drove us home! Everything was going fine until we had to stop for gas. I couldn't use the rear view mirror because our stuff was piled to the ceiling in the back so stupid me didn't even think to have someone get out of the car and look for me! I backed up slowly... praying that I wouldn't hit anything when... crunch! Of course. The next thing I know, there is a very angry woman wearing bright orange at my window. Luckily neither one of the vehicles were damaged... at all, which I thought was quite miraculous! I calmed myself down and fortunately made it home without any more accidents! Linnea thought it was absolutely hilarious that I hit a car and was making fun of me the rest of the ride home!

Overall this week was absolutely amazing! I loved every minute of Harry Potter and Seward. I can't wait to see what this week has in store!

Week Five

There's not too much to report from this week. I'm helping Brittany's family pack up their whole house as they are moving to Rexburg, Idaho at on the Tenth of August! There are is always something to be done around the house but I love being able to help out.

One thing that is definitely noteworthy from this week is the fact that Ashley sent Aimes home on the Bachelorette! What in the world is she thinking?! He is by far the sweetest guy on the show, he went to Harvard and Yale, he's sensitive and charming and did I mention that his face was carved by angels?! For the record I think that she is insane but that's just me. So now I'm pulling for JP who is a construction manager from New York. Also extremely attractive and super visually compatible with Ashley. Their kids would be adorable! And who saw Ryan coming back?! That was ridiculous, she clearly does not like him at all and I don't know what urged him to fly all the way to Fiji to try to get her back but nevertheless it only ended up in heartbreak and tears... on his part. Poor guy. I hope he finds someone special but I also really don't hope that he's next season's Bachelor. (I think Aimes should so everyone go online and vote for him like 5,000 times each!)

I can't believe that my Alaskan Expedition is coming to an end so quickly. I hope to be able to come back to Alaska one day. It's so beautiful here, truly one of my favorite places I've been to. I don't want to think about saying good-bye to Logan, Sophia, Katelynn and Jameson yet so I'm not going to dwell on it now!

Have a wonderful week everyone! This coming week looks promising so don't miss out on Midge and Britt's crazy shananagans!

Week Six

I can't believe how fast time is flying by! This past week was awesome. I did Brittany's makeup probably seventy times and we got some really fun pictures out of it :). I made a new friend, her name is Micah! She is  so much fun to be around. Linnea, Micah, Brittany and I had a girls night the other day and slept over at the Paynes' house! Brittany used to nanny for them and they were going out of town so they invited us to stay the night while they were gone. It was probably the most fun I've had in so long!

This past Sunday was also awesome because a super attractive Returned Missionary asked for my phone number after church. Yes, he goes to BYU (Provo) and yes, he will be returning there next fall :D. Score!

All of Brittany's family are now in town for the Fishback Family Reunion and I've enjoyed meeting and getting to know them. They are really fun people and I can't wait for the reunion to officially begin.

And now for the most important news of the week... (can I get a drum roll please?) ... ASHLEY PICKED JP!!!! It was the best finale to a wonderful season of The Bachelorette. Brittany and I were so excited/nervous/anxious that we almost wet our pants! For the record I am SO glad that Ashley picked JP (who I knew she would pick as soon as they got to Thailand!) I'm sad to see Ben leave the show and ultimately not end up with the girl at the end... but I think it's for the best. I just know that Ashley and JP will be together forever! Unlike most Bachelorette marriages, this one will definitely work (mostly because if it doesn't I will be forever crushed). Congratulations Ashley and JP! All of the happiness and luck to you both. Brittany and I have dearly loved watching the two of you fall in love!

I leave in 8 days... it's bittersweet. Next week will be one of my last posts in Alaska ;(.

Week Seven

This week has been so sad. I've been helping pack so Brittany's family can move to Idaho and it kind of makes me feel like I'm leaving home too! Alaska has been my home for the summer and I'm so sad to be leaving. My plane leaves tonight and if I think to hard about it I know I'm going to start crying. I've met wonderful people here and I'm so sad to be leaving them as I go back to college. I think Alaska will always have a special place in my heart, and so will Brittany's family. I hope one day I can come back to Alaska; it's my favorite place in the U.S.

The Fishback Family Reunion was a blast! We went up to Hatcher's Pass one day and it was the most gorgeous part of Alaska I've seen so far. Here are some pictures...

This trip has been amazing and I still can't believe I'm here. It's even harder to believe that in just a few hours I'll be leaving! It's bittersweet. But I know I'm going to hate saying goodbye to Brittany's family.

Thank you for reading Mighty Midge in Alaska this summer! Stay tuned for my next adventures as I embark on my second year of college!
